| Without a picture to confirm it, it sounds like what you have is a counterstamped coin. These are not made by the US Mint; the stamping is done by some private party from circulating coins. There are literally thousands of varieties. One series did have states stamped on them and I believe were sold in truck stops across the country in the 1970's-1980's. They are neither rare or valuable. My local coin guy only gets them because he knows I save unusual coins. He sells them to me for $0.25 apiece. I actually have several states, Lincoln smoking a pipe, one with JFK's profile, several with the Masonic symbol, and others. |
