i am new to collecting but have a strange coin on one side is a penny the other side is a dime. Both sides are tails. Can this happen?? There are no tool marks or mars on the coin. It doesn't look like someone has tampered with it. Does anyone know about something like this

Please post a photo of both sides. It is near impossible for the mint to strike a coin with two "heads" or two "tails" due to the way the dies are made to be mounted in the press. Modern machining techniques allow such close tolerances that it makes finding tool marks very difficult. So I would second az's opinion that it is a magician's novelty coin.

can you tell what size planchet it is punched on. and what metal it is. there has been mint errors on wrong blanks. are there any ghost images. like a faint obverse with a strong reverse over it. could there also be any machining marks on the inner rim of the coin. this could be the spot of this coin being faked if it is.
